DataHub BC

WELCOME TO DATAHUBBC!

DataHub BC is a data visualization platform aimed at improving health service delivery for gay and bisexual men by bringing together findings from high quality studies conducted in British Columbia and across Canada.

HOW DOES DATAHUB BC PROTECT THE PRIVACY OF RESEARCH PARTICIPANTS?

Protecting the privacy of research participants is our first priority. We use the same high standards used to protect individuals who complete the Canadian Census or respond to BC's provincially-administered surveys.

Firewall Security

The datasets underlying DataHub BC are located at the University of Victoria and stored behind secure firewalls so that only data summaries are available to end users.

Data Aggregation

By presenting only aggregated results, DataHub BC can be used conduct basic hypotheses tests and create stunning visualizations without compromising the privacy and confidentiality of research participants.

Synthetic Anonymization

Several advanced anonymization techniques can ensure that survey data can never be linked to specific individuals. These include random record inclusion, random variable swapping, and synthetic data generation.

Administrative Censoring

In some cases, such as when only a small number of people have a given characteristic, we censor data by omitting the values from reported totals.

WHEN WILL DATAHUB BC BE READY?

DataHub BC will be developed in three phases. Phase 1, which is funded by the Canadian Institute of Health Research,  will utilize data from the Momentum and Sex Now 2014/15 Studies, Phase 2 will integrate our other studies conducted here in BC, and Phase 3 will include studies from across Canada as we launch DataHubCA.
